Denali Field Retreats
Bring your friends or family to enjoy a stay at our field camp along the Teklanika River. Retreats blend free time to explore the Teklanika area with one day of guided activities with a Denali scientist or educator. These multi day retreats include a road permit to access the field camp and exclusive use of one tent cabin and an eating space. Shared facilities include restrooms, water spigot, outdoor kitchen area, trash cans, food storage shed, and a fire ring. A field camp host will be available at all times. Each primary registrant may bring up to 3 additional people in their vehicle, yet limitations may apply, based on the total program attendance.

Wildflower Emphasis Field Retreat
Denali National Park and Preserve
June 18 – 20
Primary Registrant: $225 Alaska Geographic member price ($250 non-member price)
Additional Registrants (up to 3): $75 each
Each summer Denali blooms in a vibrant tapestry of wildflowers. Come experience Denali during this beautiful time of year. On Saturday, we will meet up with Denali National Park botanist Carl Roland for a hike to explore these lovely mountainside colors. We’ll learn how to identify plants by sight, with a hand lens, and with field guides. We’ll also investigate how subarctic flora adapt to extreme latitude and high elevation while learning about the park’s unique patterns of plant diversity and ecological history.

Family Field Retreat

Bring your family and spend the holiday weekend at the Teklanika Field Camp in Denali National Park. A field camp host will be available to help your family plan exploration adventures and answer any questions you may have about Denali. Family friendly activities will be provided, including a guided hike and suggestions for activities you can do on your own as a family.
Bears Emphasis Field Retreat

As the days grow shorter, grizzly bears are preparing for their long winter’s sleep. Come spend a Saturday with Denali National Park wildlife biologist Pat Owen and hear tales from her 30 years of studying bears in the park. We will spend our time investigating grizzly bear habitat while learning about this animal’s behavior, life history, and their role in the Denali ecosystem. We’ll also discuss ongoing grizzly bear research and how to stay safe in bear country.
