Nominations are open for 2025 summer expeditions! 2025 Nominator Form Teen Expeditions Recruitment Thank you for helping Alaska Geographic and our partners recruit students for this summer’s Teen Expeditions. We need your help to reach students who will benefit most from these life-changing experiences. About Teen Expeditions: These multiday backcountry experiences are for students who haven't had similar opportunities but will excel when given the chance. Participants will: Spend time with public land agency staff (rangers, biologists, trail crew members, etc.) Get hands-on experience with volunteer stewardship projects and scientific monitoring Learn backcountry recreation skills Meet other teens from around Alaska Develop leadership skills These intensive and immersive experiences require students to manage themselves physically, mentally, and emotionally through various weather conditions, persistent bugs, and steady physical activity for 10+ hours/day while being around peers and leaders for multiple days. Eligibility Criteria: We recruit students from Alaska communities who: Show high potential in leadership, science, or outdoor skills and are excited about this opportunity Would otherwise not have the opportunity to participate in a similar experience Will be respectful of other participants and adults (agency staff, trip leaders) Qualify for the ANILCA Local Hiring Authority Nomination Steps: Discuss this opportunity with your student(s) and decide on a suitable trip. Complete a nominator form and support your student(s) in completing their application before the deadline. After March 3, follow up with your student on their application status. Nominators do not receive notice of application status. Who Can Nominate? Individuals 18+ in mentorship roles who know a teen who would benefit from this experience but otherwise wouldn't be able to attend. Nominators should support the teen through the application, paperwork, and trip preparation process if needed. Parents may aid in the application process, but we do not accept nominations from parents or primary guardians. Nominations from other immediate family members (e.g., siblings) are discouraged but considered on a case-by-case basis. The nomination process helps us understand the teen's desire and need for participation. How to Nominate a Student: Fill out the nomination form below. If you do not receive an email notification, check your junk box. Share these opportunities with the students you nominate. As the nominator, send the student the application and help them complete the form on time if necessary. DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS & NOMINATION FORMS IS MARCH 3, 2025. After March 3rd, all applications will be automatically waitlisted and reviewed on a rolling basis as availability allows. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee participation for everyone who applies.
